You can quickly create a copy of practically any item(s) within a Displayr Document using the Duplicate feature. You can also duplicate multiple items within a pane (i.e. Report tree, Data Sources tree, Page) at the same time. This is useful when:
- You want to analyze and show the same variable set in different ways (i.e. have a numeric version, have a version with NETs, have a version with merged or renamed categories), see Data Reduction.
- You want a standalone copy of a variable that was part of a variable set.
- You have an item setup as you wish, and you want to show a similar output and swap out the data or make minor tweaks - essentially using the original as a template.
- For Calculated outputs and variables, you can Duplicate to start with the same code and make minor tweaks to create similar outputs.

Requirements
- A Displayr Document
- Note you cannot Duplicate entire Data Sets and summary.tables found in the Data Sources pane.
Method - Duplicate an item on a Page
- Right-click on the item on the Page.
- Select Duplicate.
- A copy of the item is created slightly down and to the right of the original. Duplicated objects on pages are not expected to retain the same position (found in Properties
> Appearance > Layout) as the original object so as to easily identify the original version. The Label of the item will be the same in the Report tree, but it will have a different reference Name and GUID.
Method - Duplicate a Page or Standalone output
- Select the Page or Standalone output in the Report tree.
- Right-click and select Duplicate.
- A new Page/Standalone output will be created directly below the original.
Note if duplicating a Page, there are a couple other things to keep in mind:
- Unlike duplicating an item on a Page, duplicating a Page retains the positioning of all items on the Page.
- If items on the Page are dependent on each other (i.e. the table on the Page is used to create the visualization next to it), the duplicated items will also be linked to one another.
Method - Duplicate a Variable or Variable set
- Select a Variable(s) or Variable Set in the Data Sources pane.
- Right-click and select Duplicate.
- A duplicated version of each Variable and Variable Set is created below the original. If duplicating individual variables within a variable set, a new version will be created directly below the entire set. You can use Combine to reinclude it, if needed.
- Note that - as with other duplicates - any modifications made to the original version will NOT carry through to the duplicate.
