This article will guide you through generating a HAR file that Support sometimes requests to help troubleshoot issues in Displayr.
Note: A HAR file includes data such as cookie content and the pages you download while recording. Anyone with access to the HAR file can view the data you submit during the recording process, which can include personal or sensitive data. Secure HAR files accordingly.
Method - Chrome browser
- Open Chrome and go to the page where the issue occurs.
- Go to the three dots button
and select More Tools > Developer tools.
- Go to the Network tab. Keep the window open when you reproduce the issue.
-
Optional: If Support requests a HAR file with WebSockets, select the Socket option in the Network tab.
Reload the browser to view the traffic over the WebSocket. The Socket option does not capture all logs when you download the HAR file, but only filters the display and downloads WebSocket logs.
- Look for a round record button
in the upper-left corner of the tab and ensure it is red. If it is grey, click the button to start the record process.
- Check the Keep log box.
- Click the grey crossed circle button
to clear existing logs from the Network tab
- Reproduce the issue in Displayr while the network records requests.
- Click the download button
to download and save the file to your computer.
- Give the file a name and Save.
- Upload the HAR file to the ticket for further investigation.
Method - Firefox browser
- Open Firefox and go to the page where the issue occurs.
- Go to Open application menu
and select More Tools > Web Developer Tools.
- Go to the Network tab.
- Reproduce the issue while the network records requests.
- Right-click anywhere under the File column and click Save All As HAR.
- Save the HAR file in a convenient location.
- Upload the HAR file to the ticket for further investigation.
Method - Safari browser
- Open Safari and go to the page where the issue occurs.
- Click on the Develop tab from the menu bar and select Show Web Inspector. If you do not see the Develop tab, go to Safari > Preferences. Then click on the Advanced tab and click the Show features for web developers box.
- Click the Network tab. Keep it open when you reproduce the issue.
- Reproduce the issue while the network records requests.
- Click Export and save the HAR file.
- Upload the HAR file to the ticket for further investigation.
Additional Notes
Sometimes uncompressed HAR files are over email attachment limits. If you see a message about this, compress the HAR file before sending.
By default, HAR files use the page URL as the file name. If you see a message about the attachment being suspicious, rename the HAR file with a descriptive name that does not include the full URL.
