The Small Multiples - Area Chart feature creates a panel of area charts, rather than stacking or overlaying the results.
We will end up with several small column charts like this:
Requirements
- A table with at least two columns and at least one row.
Method - Via the visualization menu
- From the toolbar, select Visualization > Area > Small Multiples Area.
- Click on the page to place the visualization.
- Under Data > Data Source > Data select the table that you want to base the chart on. Alternatively, in Data > Data Source > Variables, select the data that you would like to be in the rows.
- OPTIONAL: If using Variables in Step 3, select the secondary variable to use as your cluster in Data > Data Source > Groups.
- OPTIONAL: Under Chart make additional adjustments to change the appearance of the visualization.
- Click Calculate and/or ensure that Calculate automatically is checked.
Method 2 - Using an existing table
- Select the table.
- From the object inspector, go to Visualization > Area > Small Multiples Area.
- OPTIONAL: Under Chart make additional adjustments to change the appearance of the visualization.
- Click Calculate and/or ensure that Calculate automatically is checked.
Note
Important information about editing captions:
Visualization caption edits may not be retained when a visualization with a nested table is switched back to a table. Normally, this only occurs when you double-click the caption and edit the text directly. As a workaround, we recommend using Appearance > Caption > Edit caption to edit your captions.
Note that when there are missing values inside the series (i.e. not at the ends of the series) are present, lines are shown along the edge of an Area Chart, with missing segments between points indicating missing values. Stacked Area Charts cannot be plotted with missing values.
