How to Specify Numeric Attributes in Choice Models

By default, choice models in Displayr treat attributes as being categorical, estimating the utility for each level of each attribute. An alternative approach is to treat the attribute as being numeric (see Numeric versus Categorical Attributes in Choice Models in The Data Story Guide).

Requirements

A document containing a choice model.

Method

Select the choice model.
In the object inspector , tick Data > Experimental Design > Code some categorical attributes as numeric.
In the Attribute 1 field that appears, type in the exact name of the first numeric attribute and desired values to use, with commas in between. For example:
- Attribute name: Salary (compared to current)
- Attribute levels (in the order they appear in the value attributes):
  - Your current salary
  - Salary 5% higher
  - Salary 10% higher
  - Salary 15% higher
  - Salary 20% higher
- What to type in: Salary (compared to current), 0, .5, 1, 1.5, 2
