Sometimes you may want a table that is a bit more customized than some of our built-in tables allow. With Autofit tables (Visualization > Specialty Tables > Table with Custom Formatting), you can control the formatting and spacing of the table to align with outputs and give your report a cohesive feel. This article describes how to go from a standard table...
...to a table that can align perfectly with other outputs.
Requirements
One of the following:
- A table that you wish to fit the width of your page, output, or visualization automatically.
- A table with rows that you wish to align with the rows of another output on your page.
- A table with columns that you wish to align with the columns of another output on your page.
Method
- With the table selected, go to Visualization
> Specialty Tables > Table with Custom Formatting.
- [OPTIONAL] In the object inspector, tick Data > Data manipulation > Switch rows and columns to reverse the rows and columns of the source table.
- Drag the table by its edges until it aligns with the desired output.
- [OPTIONAL] Use the Chart tab to adjust font and colors for cells and headers.
- [OPTIONAL] Turn horizontal/vertical scrolling on or off via Chart > Scrollbars. Turn off the scrollbar(s) if you are aligning an Autofit table with another object on the page, such as in the visualization example above
- [OPTIONAL] Sort and filter rows and columns on the Data tab.
Notes
If the horizontal scrollbar does not automatically appear, you may need to adjust your column width settings. To do so, go to Chart > Column Header > Column widths and set the column width for each column in the table. For example, in a table with four columns, I would set the Column width to "200px, 200px, 200px, 200px".
Depending on your formatting settings, the background of the column headers may be set to "transparent" and interfere with data in the cells when scrolling up or down. To adjust this so that the results are easier to read, you will need to go to Chart > Column Header > Fill color and select a non-transparent color, including white, and click Calculate.
