How to Create a Quad Chart

Quad charts are useful because they can section off scatterplots to highlight different observations. This article explains how to add quadrants an array of scatterplots. So you can go from a Bubble chart that looks like:

to one with quadrants like:

Requirements

Method

Please note that quadrants are not exported to editable PowerPoint charts.

1. Select the visualization and from the object inspector, check Chart > Quadrants > Show Quadrants.
2. Select where you want the horizontal and vertical lines to go in your chart. The Set midpoint on X/Y axis using fields determines how this is done. Average and Median are options automatically calculated using the observations. Calculation will point to a Calculation output where you can create a custom calculation to use. Value allows you to enter a static value to place the line. This example uses the Average for both the X and the Y axis. 
3. Optional: Further customize the horizontal and vertical lines for the width, color, and type (style).
   
4. Optional: Four new sections are created when using quadrants to format the individual quadrants if desired: Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, and Bottom Right Quadrant. Within each, you can set the background color, add a title, and customize the title font.
5. Optional: You can reposition the quadrant titles (as well as other labels) on the chart. This positioning will be remembered if the visualization is recalculated, but reset if the data used in the visualization changes.
