Sometimes you may have prefixes in common in row or column labels in tables and visualizations. For example, the table below contains "Preferred Cola" in the row labels and "Coca-Cola" in the column labels:
In these cases, you may want to tidy your table or visualization and remove the common prefixes.
The Tidy Row Labels and Tidy Column Labels rules extract common prefixes from the row/column labels or vector names to shorten the labels in the table or visualization.
Requirements
- A table or visualization where the row or column labels contain common prefixes.
Note: You must apply the rule directly to the input table if you see a table icon in the Data > Data Source > Data field in the object inspector of a visualization.
You will also see a warning in the Rules section of the object inspector if you have applied a rule directly to a non-compatible visualization, and you will need to apply it to the input table instead. For example:
Method
- Select the table or visualization that contains row/column labels that you would like to tidy.
- From the object inspector, go to Data > Rules > + > Row/Column Labels > Tidy Row Labels or Tidy Column Labels.
- Click OK.
