Sometimes you may want to cap Numeric variable to a certain number. This can be useful if you have high outliers in your data due to typos and other input errors. You can recode these high outliers to a value you set. This article describes how to take a numeric question with high values:
And recode the values so that the high values are capped at a selected value:
- A data set containing one or more Numeric variables with high values that you want to cap.
1. In the Data Sets pane, select the Numeric variables with high values you want to cap.
2. Click Anything > Data > Variables > Modify > Recode > Recode Low Values (Capping) in Numeric Variable(s).
4. Enter the value to use as the cap (I used 100 in the example above). All values higher than the value entered will be recoded to that value and click OK.
