The R Language is a computer programming language developed for data analysis. It is almost identical to an earlier language known as S.
A number of different apps have been developed for conducting analyses written in the R Language. Somewhat confusingly, the most widely used program for conducting analyses using the R language is also called R, and it is used by many of the other apps (e.g., Displayr). Here, we will refer to this app as the R Console which can be downloaded from r-project.org.
There are many different ways of learning the R language, and whichever is best for you will depend upon your technical skills, background, and what you are trying to achieve. Alternative ways of learning include:
- Subscribing to an online courses on R, such as DataCamp and Bootcamp.
- Books on R. There are many different books on R and the trick is usually to find a book written by somebody whose background matches your own.
- Webpages and blogs. See Cross Validated for a list.
