This article explains the basics of creating tables in Displayr. It describes how to create summary tables, crosstabs, how to choose statistics, sort, and combine categories.
Summary tables are created by dragging data onto the page.
Crosstabs are created by dragging data onto the summary analyses.
You can keep adding data, building up a more detailed table.
By default, Displayr chooses the most commonly used statistic to show on a table (e.g., the %, Column %, and Average). There are two ways to change the statistics that are shown:
- You can restructure the data. For example, if the table is showing percentages and you wish to show averages, then, you can change the structure of the data so it shows averages. This is discussed in Working with Variable Sets.
- Choose from STATISTICS > Cells, Right, and Below. See the image below.
Sort categories on a table by right-clicking on the column you wish to sort, and choosing how you wish to sort (e.g., Descending). This change will change the underlying data (e.g., all current and future tables that use this data).
You can also sort by clicking and dragging on the symbol that appears in row and column categories. When doing this, take note of where you release the category, as it can be either moved or combined with another category.
You can combine categories by dragging and dropping and by selecting multiple categories, right-clicking, and choosing Combine. See the example above. This change will change the underlying data (e.g., all current and future tables that use this data).
If you decide later on that you'd like to split it back apart, you can choose or Reset > Categories.
Creating additional combined categories
An alternative to combining categories is to create a new combined category. For example, you may want to create a category called 18 to 34 in addition to 18 to 24 and 25 to 34. This is done by selecting the categories and choosing Combine > As New Category. See below.
Right-click on the category of a table and select Rename to change how it appears. This change will change the underlying data (e.g., all current and future tables that use this data).
