...to a table or visualization where we add the SPSS custom attribute or comments for a variable set in the table footer (caption):
In this example, we have added the Comment of Recoded age groups to the footer.
Requirements
- A table or visualization with a variable (set) in the Rows that includes an SPSS custom attribute or comment.
- SPSS custom attributes may contain information about the original survey design (such as the original question text), making it useful to include this information in the footer of tables. Displayr will automatically create variable comments when your SPSS data file contains custom attributes. These appear under General > General > Comment and can be edited:
Note: You must apply the rule directly to the input table if you see a table icon in the Data > Data Source > Data field in the object inspector of a visualization.
You will also see a warning in the Rules section of the object inspector if you have applied a rule directly to a non-compatible visualization, and you will need to apply it to the input table instead. For example:
Method
- Select your table or visualization.
- Go to Data > Rules in the object inspector

- Select Plus (+) > Caption > Add Contents of SPSS Data File's Custom Attribute.
- OPTIONAL: You are able to remove the prefix text from the start of all comments. For example, if your comment was "Question text: Choose your gender", then you would enter "Question text: " (including the space) as your prefix, resulting in a final table footer of "Choose your gender".
- Press OK.
