How to Make One Column Appear After Another in a Table or Visualization

This article describes how to go from a standard table......to a table or visualization where a specified column has been moved automatically. In this example, Diet Pepsi has moved after Pepsi Max:

Requirements

• A table with rows and columns. Items with column spans are not compatible with this rule.

Note: You must apply the rule directly to the input table if you see a table icon in the Data > Data Source > Data field in the Properties of a visualization.

You will also see a warning in the Rules section of Properties if you have applied a rule directly to a non-compatible visualization, and you will need to apply it to the input table instead. For example:

Method

1. Select your table.
2. Go to Data > Rules in the Properties .
3. Select Plus (+) > Sort/Reorder > Make One Column Appear After Another.
4. Using the drop-down, select the column you want to move and the column you want it to appear after.
5. Press OK.

Note: if you select Switch rows and columns on your table, the rule will no longer work because the table dimensions have changed. In this case, you will have to apply the Make One Row Appear After Another rule instead.

Additionally, columns moved using this rule cannot later be moved manually via drag and drop.
