Displayr, like any other website, relies on many services to ensure that it gets from the servers where it lives to your browser. One such service is called "Content Delivery Network" (CDN) and this is, effectively, a globally distributed network of servers that ensures that your internet content (including Displayr) is sent to you from the closest server. It makes things load faster.
Occasionally, your local CDN may experience issues which impact Displayr, preventing it from loading properly. These errors are often intermittent, and don't last long. Anything from seconds to minutes. When they occur, you may get this error message in Displayr:
Step 1
As obvious as it may seem, the first thing to try is making sure that your browser is in the clear.
- Re-start your browser. If you have multiple windows open, close all of them.
- Go to Displayr again, and re-load.
Step 2
Assuming the browser is fine, but Displayr still presents the error, then it's time to make sure that your computer is also in the clear. At the risk of sounding like a TV-show character:
- Turn your computer off completely, then restart it.
- Re-start your browser.
- Go to Displayr again.
Step 3
You can circumvent your local CDN, and force Displayr to download the content for you.
Only do this if you've tried the above two steps, and it's looking likely that your CDN is going to be malfunctioning for a longer period.
Although the following steps are likely to ensure Displayr loads (if the CDN outage isn't global!), it will also result in slower download times. It's thus important that you revert to normal settings after a period to check if your local CDN is back up and running.
- In your browser's URL bar, observe what your current Displayr link looks like. At the start of the link, you'll see something like app.displayr.com/.... or westeurope.displayr.com/.... or, if you have a custom domain enabled, yourCustomDomain.displayr.com/... Take a note of the word before the "displayr.com" bit. That's your "host."
- In your browser's URL bar, paste the link below, then edit it as follows, before hitting Enter.
https://<host>.displayr.com/StaticAssetProxy/EnableProxy - Replace the bit that says <host> (including removing the <> characters) with the word from step 1, above. It might look something like this:
https://app.displayr.com/StaticAssetProxy/EnableProxyhttps://westeurope.displayr.com/StaticAssetProxy/EnableProxyhttps://yourCustomDomain.displayr.com/StaticAssetProxy/EnableProxy - Hit Enter to load the link. You'll get a small bit of text in the top left of your browser telling you the proxy has been enabled.
- Navigate back to your usual Displayr address. Displayr should now load as usual, but as mentioned above, may experience some reduction in download speeds.
- After an hour or two, revert to your usual CDN. Follow the same steps as above, but instead use the following link, and edit it as before:
https://<host>.displayr.com/StaticAssetProxy/DisableProxy
The above will work only in your particular browser until you either revert (as in step 6), or clear your cookies for Displayr. It's therefore a good idea to make absolutely sure that you test out whether the normal CDN is back up and running intermittently so that you don't leave the proxy enabled for long periods of time.
