Connecting Displayr to OpenAI

Some of Displayr's AI features require you to have access to the OpenAI API. This is done by:

Step 1: Get your API Secret Key from OpenAI

You will need an OpenAI account with API credits. Please note that OpenAI API credits and a paid ChatGPT account are two different products. A paid ChatGPT account does not include OpenAI API credits; those are purchased separately.

The process for creating an account is:

  1. Go to the OpenAI API login.
  2. If you don't already have an OpenAI account, click Sign Up and follow the instructions for creating a paid account. Complete all the steps to set up your account.
  3. When given the choice, choose API.
  4. Go to the API keys page by clicking this link.
    1. You can also access the keys by clicking Dashboard at the top right, and then clicking API Keys in the menu on the left.
  5. Press Create new secret key.
  6. Complete the key creation process, select the OpenAI project that should be associated with the key, and click Create secret key.
  7. Copy the secret key. It will be a long list of characters; make sure to save this somewhere safe and do not share it with anyone.
  8. Once you've created your API key, verify that you have API credits on your account. Click the Settings gear icon near the top right of the page then click Billing on the left side or go to this link.
  9. To use OpenAI in Displayr, you must have a credit balance above $0. If you don't currently have credits, add them on that page. If you see a message that you don't have permission to manage billing information, you will need to contact the owner of your Open AI account to add credits. 

Step 2: Add the OpenAI Secret to Displayr

  1. Log in to Displayr.
  2. Click on the initials icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Select Account settings.
  4. Go to the Secrets tab.
  5. Press Add.
  6. In the Type dropdown, select Open AI.
  7. Paste your secret key in the Value field.
  8. Give it a Name (any name; it's just for your reference).
  9. Press Save.

Step 3: Press Calculate on any outputs 

Any AI outputs you have already calculated in your documents must be re-calculated by selecting the outputs and clicking Calculate at the top of the object inspector.
