Your analysis and reports are stored in Displayr documents. The first step in conducting any analysis or reporting is to create a document.
A Displayr document contains:
- Your data
- Objects you have added (e.g., visualizations, images, textboxes)
- Pages
- Instructions for automatically updating the document
Documents can be opened in edit or view mode.
Edit mode
When you open a Displayr document in edit mode, the user interface consists of five main areas:
Toolbar
The toolbar is split into 3 sections:
1. In the middle you will find buttons to add objects to your document.
2. On the left, just below the document name, you will find the Tools menu, Undo, Redo, and Search buttons. The Tools menu is used to find actions related to your document or a selected object.
Besides the Tools menu, certain functions such as Copy, Cut, Paste, and Delete are also available in the context menu. To access the context menu, right-click on the object(s) you have selected.
3. On the right, are the Zoom controls for the work area, the Comments panel toggle, and the Help and Share menus.
Report tree
The Report tree contains the pages, objects, and folders in your document. You can add new pages and folders by clicking on + button that appears when hovering in the Report tree.
Data Sources tree
The Data Sources tree is where data that you import is stored. You can add more data by clicking on the + button.
Note: Data pasted directly onto a page will appear as a table and does not appear in this section. It appears as a table object in the Report tree.
Object Inspector
The Object Inspector is where all of the settings for a selected object live (e.g., font settings, chart settings, rules, visibility).
Page
The Page is like a canvas that shows tables, visualizations, objects, or single outputs.
When a page is shown (below), the canvas represents all of the usable area in which you can add things to the page.
View mode
When you publish a Displayr document to the web (using Share > Publish to web), it can be opened in View mode which shows your document as an interactive online document.
In view mode, everything on your canvas that has not been explicitly hidden will be visible to the viewer.
