In April 2024, we released a redesigned Displayr user interface, which makes Displayr easier to use. The changes are primarily visual, with a few adjustments to the layout and menu names. All the core functionality and features remain unchanged.
This post and the video introduce the new Displayr interface and describe the key changes.
What's changed?
The object inspector is now on the left side of the screen for easier access, streamlining your workflow. It's located next to the Report menu (previously named the Pages tree) and the Data Sources menu (previously named the Data Sets tree).
The new user interface also features a modern, streamlined, user-friendly toolbar.
The redesigned toolbar is less cluttered, offering a simplified approach to accessing features.
The Tools menu, Undo and Redo buttons, and Search field are now located on the left side of the toolbar, with the document name just above them.
The Tools menu is split into three sections and includes the following:
Note that document-level settings such as Page Master, Document Layout, Document Settings, and Version History can now be found in the Tools menu, as well as the Memory Profiler.
The middle of the toolbar consists of eight icons, one for each submenu. The menu includes a new addition, the Controls submenu. All the remaining submenus and the features available within the menus remain unchanged.
Zoom, the Comments panel toggle, and the Help and Share (previously named Publish) menus are on the right side of the toolbar.
Many of the buttons that were previously in the toolbar at the top are now in the context menu. To access the context menu, right-click on the item or items you have selected. That will pull up the context menu, which contains relevant commands for the item or items you have selected.
Additionally, you can access this menu by selecting an item and clicking theicon in the toolbar that appears directly above it:
You can use the context menu to quickly access frequently used functions such as Copy, Cut, Paste, and Delete functions. Access them by selecting and right-clicking on any object in Displayr (e.g., Page) and opening the context menu:
Hovering over a page in your Report tree and clicking the icon will instead bring up a menu of available items to add to your Report:
It's also now possible to maximize the view of any table, visualization or calculation on your page by selecting the item and clicking theicon directly above it.
Tip to help you navigate the new user interface
Use the Search field to help you navigate and locate features in the new user interface. Simply type in the name of the feature you wish to find, select the Menus option from the dropdown menu, and follow the yellow highlights.
Disabling the new user interface
For a very limited time, you have the option of turning off the preview of the new user interface. Starting in May, everyone will automatically switch over to the new interface.
If you'd like to disable the preview, click your name at the top right corner. Then, click Disable new UI.
Please note that you will only be able to revert back to the old user interface for a limited time.
