This article describes how you can create new variables that show the proportion of respondents who selected the bottom 2 options in
computes what is commonly referred to as 'Bottom 2 Box' percentages. Categories that look like Don't know options will not be included in the bottom boxes, and when such categories are identified the script will give you the option to remove them.The table on the left shows a Summary table of a Nominal - Multi question. The table on the right shows a Summary of the Binary - Multi.
Requirements
- A data set loaded into Displayr that contains
Method
- To create a 'Bottom 2 Box' variable select the variable set in the Data Sources tree.
- Go to the icon and select Data > Variables > New > Ready-Made New Variable(s) > Bottom Two Category Variable(s) (Bottom 2 Boxes).
- Displayr will ask you if you want to consider whose categories suggest that they may be scale (for example, 5-point agreement scales).
- Then, it will ask you to select which to generate new variables for, if you haven't already selected a variable in the Data Sources tree.
- You will then be asked if you want to remove categories that look like Don't know options. This is equivalent to setting the category as Missing Data.
- Displayr will then create new variables for the bottom 2 categories of each selected
. The Value Attributes (select the new variable set under Data Sources and then select Data > Data Values > Values) may look something similar to below:
Notes
- Displayr identifies the bottom options by looking at the numeric Value for each category that is not selected as Missing Data in the Value Attributes, of the variable set, and choosing the lowest.
- To find out what the numeric values are, select the variable set in the Data Sources tree, and then in the object inspector on the right of your screen, under Data > Data Values click on Select categories.
