Links allow a viewer to jump to a different page within your Document (Dashboard) or to a URL outside the Document. This article describes the steps required to insert a Link into your Document. There are several options available (animations are discussed in How to Add Animations to Published Dashboards):
Method 2 - Link to a Page within the Document
Method 3 - Navigate within browser history, or within the Document
Requirements
- An object (such as an image or shape) or text to add the link to.
- For links to pages or for navigation, you need at least two Pages in your document.
Please note this requires the Data Stories module or a Displayr license.
Method 1 - Link to a Web Page
- Select an output or text you wish to add the link to.
- Right-Click the item you wish to link and select Link > Web Page.
- Input the complete hyperlink including the protocol (eg http, https, ftp, or mailto). The link to the Displayr home page (https://www.displayr.com/) is used in the below example.
- [Optional]: select Open this link in a new tab. Selecting this option will ensure that the desired website opens in a new tab of the browser, rather than navigating away from the Dashboard.
- [Optional]: if adding a link within text, you can modify the Text to display: text is shown for the link.
- Select OK.
Method 2 - Link to a Page within the Document
- Select an output or text you wish to add the link to.

- Select the desired page from the Page: drop-down menu.
- [Optional]: select Open this link in a new tab if you wish for the Page to appear in a new tab of the browser.
- Select OK.
Note: Page links are not supported when exporting to Office or PDF.
Method 3 - Navigate within browser history, or within the Document
- Select an output or text you wish to add the link to.
- Right-click the text and click Link.
- Select one of the below options:
- Back - to go backward in viewers' browser history.
- Forward - to go forward in viewers' browser history.
- Previous Page - to link to the previous page in the document.
- Next Page - to link to the next page in the document. - Select OK.
Note, navigation links are not supported when exporting to Office or PDF.
Method 4 - Remove a link
- Select the object or text that you want to remove the link from.
- Right-click and click Link > Remove Link.
- Click OK to confirm you want to remove the link.
Additional details
- To see if there is a link already on an object, select the object and go to the Anything > Advanced > Page Design > Link menu to see if there is an option highlighted in the menu.
- If outputs on your page are interactive, you will not be able to create a link on top of them. This most notably includes visuals created from the Visualizations menu.
