Sometimes you may have a spontaneous or unaided awareness question in your survey where you ask respondents to list brands (or other items) that come to mind. Most times this data will be collected as text data, then you will need to go back and categorize responses into the various brands taking into account spelling corrections, abbreviations, and other nuances. Instead of manually coding these items, you can instead run our List of Items automation to do it automatically.
This article tells you how to automatically code verbatim lists of items or brands, such as spontaneous awareness questions. It will take you from uncategorized verbatim (raw) text responses:

Requirements
You will need a Text variable in order to perform automatic coding. Text variables are represented by a small a next to the variable in the Data Sets tree:
Method
- From the toolbar, go to Anything > Advanced Analysis > Text Analysis > Automatic Categorization > List of Items.
- In the object inspector, under Inputs > DATA SOURCE > Text variable select the text variable you want to automatically code.
